Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Balls
  • Cones/Markers for boundaries and lines
Setup
  1. Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
  2. Team Blue: 3 blue outfield players start as attackers on their own end line of the area
  3. Team Red: 3 red outfield players start as defenders on their own end line of the area
  4. Equipment: Cones marking the four corners of the 20x20 area, plus cones marking each team's defensive end line, balls for restarts
Instructions
  1. The game begins with the attacking team passing the ball across to initiate play.
  2. The defending team applies pressure to prevent attackers from stopping the ball on their defensive line.
  3. If defenders win possession, they transition to attack, trying to score on the opposite line.
  4. Rotations occur every two minutes to ensure all players experience both attacking and defending roles.
  5. Restart games with a pass from the team that was last attacking.
Coaching Points
  • Close down the ball quickly and communicate with teammates.
  • Maintain concentration and use a body shape that is low and side-on.
  • Ensure play is predictable by channeling attackers into desired areas.
  • Use patience to jockey attackers and wait for the best moment to win the ball.
  • Keep defenders compact and react to every movement to close any gaps.
  • First defender presses the ball carrier, second covers, third balances the formation.
  • Form a triangle with the back two defenders tucking in when the middle defender steps up.
  • Use good body shape to force attackers' movement direction.
  • Be ready to stop and 'freeze' the situation to teach proper defending techniques.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the playing area to increase pressure on defenders.
2. Introduce a time constraint for attackers to score, forcing quicker decisions.
3. Add a neutral player to the attacking team to increase attacking options.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the playing area to allow more space for defending adjustments.
2. Allow defenders to start with an extra player to gain numerical advantage.
3. Limit attackers to two touches, making it easier for defenders to recover.
