Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Tall cones
  • Soccer balls
  • Markers for boundary
Setup
  1. Area: 20x20 yard area marked with boundary markers
  2. Team Red: 4 red outfield players start lined up along their own end line
  3. Team Blue: 4 blue outfield players start lined up along their own end line
  4. Equipment: 5 tall cones set up along each end line forming a goal line for each team (10 total), soccer balls kept in supply nearby for quick restarts
Instructions
  1. Players aim to knock over cones at the opposing end by passing and shooting.
  2. Upon knocking a cone, quickly retrieve and add it to their own line.
  3. Opposing team gains possession and attacks immediately.
  4. Creates a temporary 4v3 advantage while a player retrieves the cone.
  5. Play continues until one team collects all cones or the time elapses.
Coaching Points
  • Foster effective communication
  • Encourage precise first touches
  • Maintain awareness by keeping heads up
  • Ensure the ball is constantly moving
  • Drive attacks with pace
  • Focus on pass quality: accuracy, weight, and timing
  • Position with good angles and distances for support
  • Make quick decisions, on and off the ball
  • Observe player movement in support positions
  • Implement attacking principles like width, depth, penetration, and mobility
  • Create diamond and triangular formations
  • Encourage possession retention and breaking defensive lines
  • Always aim to move the ball forward promptly
  • Highlight quality technique and execution
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the playing area size to 25x25 yards
2. Use one less player per team, creating a 3v3 scenario
3. Introduce time constraints for quicker play execution
Make it easier:
1. Decrease the playing area size to 15x15 yards
2. Allow a 5th player as a neutral participant supporting the team in possession
3. Remove the cone retrieval component so players can focus on play
