Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • 3 Cones
  • 5-yard wide goal
  • Several balls
  • One server
Setup
  1. Area: 3-yard line of cones spaced 1 yard apart leading to the goal
  2. Goals: One 5-yard wide goal at the end of the cone line
  3. Group GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned at the first cone, facing the goal
  4. Coach: 1 grey server positioned near the goal holding several balls
  5. Equipment: 3 cones in a line, each 1 yard apart, ending at the goal
Instructions
  1. The goalkeeper zigzags through the cones towards the goal.
  2. As the goalkeeper finishes the last cone, the server kicks the ball toward the goal.
  3. The goalkeeper must react quickly to intercept or parry the ball, aiming to collect it with both hands or deflect it if necessary.
Coaching Points
  • Maintain a forward and balanced body weight on the balls of feet.
  • Communicate with clarity and purpose.
  • Stand large and still in 1v1 situations.
  • Remain positive and always expect a shot.
  • Cover all angles confidently.
  • Quickly assess the opponent's approach angle and distance.
  • Stay light on feet and glide into the ready position.
  • Keep knees slightly bent for quick reaction.
  • Focus on the flight and pace of the ball.
  • Execute clean diving technique without landing on elbows.
  • Ensure adequate rest between reps and observe technique quality.
  • Build confidence to handle various ball heights and speeds.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase speed and frequency of server's kicks.
2. Use smaller balls to challenge handling skills.
3. Add additional cones for more complex footwork.
Make it easier:
1. Space the cones further apart to simplify footwork.
2. Slow down the server's ball delivery.
3. Allow goalkeeper more rest between attempts.
