Ball Control Turn Drill

Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Soccer balls (one per player)
  • Cones for boundary marking
Setup
  1. Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
  2. Group: 1 red outfield player spaced evenly with others across the practice area, each with a ball at their feet
  3. Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 20x20 yard area
Instructions
  1. Players push the ball forward with the right foot.
  2. Using the right sole, pull the ball back and turn 45 degrees right.
  3. Take the ball forward with the inside of the right foot.
  4. Repeat the sequence with the left foot turning 45 degrees left.
  5. Progress from stationary ball to performing at speed.
  6. Combine other ball manipulation techniques like dragbacks.
Coaching Points
  • Maintain close ball control
  • Keep head up when possible
  • Execute move with good technique
  • Increase speed progressively
  • Slightly bend knees for balance
  • Stay light on feet for agility
  • Establish rhythm in movements
  • Monitor player's improvement
  • Enhance coordination and ball feel
  • Observe touch and ball manipulation
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the speed of execution.
2. Integrate more complex skills or combine moves.
Make it easier:
1. Start with a stationary ball.
2. Reduce the turn angle to 30 degrees to simplify.
3. Allow more space between players for easier maneuvering.
