Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
- Cones for marking the field and goals
- Small cone goals
- Soccer balls
Setup
- Area: 30x20 yard area marked with cones
- Goals: Two small cone goals at each end line (four cone goals total, one pair per team's scoring end)
- Team Red: 1 red outfield player lined up on the red end line of the area
- Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player lined up on the blue end line of the area
- Equipment: Cones marking the four corners and boundary of the 30x20 area, two small cone goals at each end line, soccer balls placed centrally in the area
Instructions
- The coach calls out two numbers aloud.
- The players assigned those numbers race towards the ball, aiming to score by dribbling through either of the cone goals at their opposing end.
- Once a goal is scored or the ball exits play, the active players sprint back to their starting line.
- Repeat the cycle with different number calls to involve all players while monitoring their workload and recovery.
Coaching Points
- Encourage quick decisions and aggressive attacking runs.
- Ensure training intensity overloads aerobic systems, pushing players out of comfort zones.
- Balance intensity with adequate recovery to prevent overtraining.
- Focus on technical, tactical, physical, and psychological components.
- Monitor fatigue to maintain peak performance throughout sessions.
- Promote anaerobic endurance via repeated bursts of high-intensity actions.
- Foster awareness and adaptability in dynamic game situations.
- Adapt the drill intensity based on players' age and fitness levels to maximize benefits.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Decrease the size of the playing area to increase pressure.
2. Call out more than two numbers, creating 2v2 or 3v3 situations.
3. Limit the touch count to encourage sharper ball control.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the playing area to provide more space.
2. Use fewer numbers to create more one-on-one situations.
3. Allow players to pass the ball to a teammate before attacking the goal.
