Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Goal
  • Cones
  • Soccer balls
  • Goalkeeper
Setup
  1. Area: 18-yard box and surrounding space up to 10 yards outside it
  2. Goals: One large goal on the goal line of the 18-yard box
  3. Group: 1 blue working player starts with their back to goal, facing the server, just inside the 18-yard box
  4. Group GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line
  5. Coach: 1 grey server positioned 10 yards outside the 18-yard box, facing the working player, holding the balls
  6. Equipment: Cones marking the server's starting position and the working area boundary, soccer balls with the server
Instructions
  1. The server throws the ball slightly over the player's head.
  2. The player pivots to attempt a half volley shot.
  3. As the first shot is taken, the server rolls another ball along the ground.
  4. The player turns, controls, and finishes within two touches.
  5. The player resets to repeat the sequence.
Coaching Points
  • Prioritize accuracy over power in finishing.
  • Maintain a positive and confident approach.
  • Ensure a quality first touch and effective shooting technique.
  • Keep your head up to assess the goalkeeper's position.
  • Aim the standing foot towards the target.
  • Consistently hit the target, utilizing both feet.
  • Adapt running speed for optimal technical execution.
  • Encourage players to approach the ball when receiving.
  • Demonstrate varied shooting and finishing techniques.
  • Adjust distances based on age and skill levels.
  • Reinforce correct technique with repetition.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the speed and intensity of serves from the server.
2. Add defensive pressure to simulate match conditions.
Make it easier:
1. Allow three touches for control and shooting.
2. Reduce the distance between the player and the goal.
