Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
- Cones for marking the main and corner squares
- One ball per game (though initially only one player starts with a ball)
- Bibs or pinnies to differentiate players if needed
Setup
- Area: 15x15 yard area marked with cones, with a 2x2 yard square marked in each corner
- Group: 4 red players, one positioned in each corner square, with one of the four starting in possession of the ball
- Equipment: cones marking the outer 15x15 yard square and cones marking a 2x2 yard square in each of the four corners
Instructions
- The player with the ball dribbles to any opponent's corner square.
- On reaching the square, they stop the ball and tag the opponent.
- Both players race around the outside of the area to return to the starting point.
- The first player back collects the ball and becomes the next challenger.
- Continue the sequence with each player having a turn as the challenger.
Coaching Points
- Encourage clear communication between players.
- Promote gradual increase in intensity during the activity.
- Ensure players frequently hydrate to maintain performance.
- Focus on good first touch and maintaining close control when dribbling.
- Monitor players' body language and focus for signs of fatigue.
- Ensure warm-up activities are engaging and relate to the main session.
- Emphasize the importance of effective warm-ups for physical and mental readiness.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the size of the playing area to 20x20 meters.
2. Add an additional player with a ball to increase decision-making speed.
Make it easier:
1. Reduce the playing area to 10x10 meters.
2. Allow players to rest for 30 seconds between each round.
