Equipment
- Cones for marking the square
- Footballs, one per group
Setup
- Area: 8x8 yard area marked with cones
- Group: 4 players, one positioned on each corner of the square
- Equipment: 4 cones marking the corners of the 8x8 yard square, 1 football starting with the player at the starting corner
Instructions
- The starting player passes the ball to the next player clockwise and follows the pass.
- The receiving player controls the pass with the inside of the furthest foot, opens their body, and sends the ball to the next player.
- Upon the third player's reception, they dribble the ball to the last corner and restart the cycle.
- Rotate direction after several minutes to practice with both feet.
Coaching Points
- Ensure effective communication among players.
- Focus on a good first touch to control the ball.
- Keep your head up to observe teammate positions.
- Accuracy, timing, and disguise are key for quality passes.
- Receive with the furthest foot to maintain forward momentum.
- Maintain a light footed stance for better balance.
- Stand with your supporting foot aimed at your target for precise passing.
- Keep the ball consistently moving.
- Proper body shape and stance influence accuracy - bend knees slightly, lock ankle, and follow through.
- Inspect angles and distances for optimal support, ensuring clear passing lanes.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the size of the playing area.
2. Limit touches per player.
3. Use weaker foot for passing and receiving.
Make it easier:
1. Decrease the size of the playing area.
2. Allow more touches for control.
3. Practice using dominant foot only.
