Equipment
- Cones or markers to define the playing area
- Two goals or gates
- Soccer balls
Setup
- Area: 30x20 yard area marked with cones or markers
- Goals: One goal or gate centred on each end line
- Team Red: 1 red outfield player paired against an opposing blue player, spread across the area
- Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player paired against an opposing red player, spread across the area
- Equipment: Cones or markers marking the corners of the 30x20 area, one goal or gate at each end line, soccer balls for play
Instructions
- Start the game with one team; they attempt to complete the prescribed number of passes.
- Players move to create good passing angles and meet the minimum pass requirement.
- Paired players mark each other, aiming to prevent passes and dispossess the opponent.
- Once the pass requirement is met, the attacking team attempts to score in a goal.
- Restart play with the team that conceded or after the ball goes out of play.
Coaching Points
- Communicate effectively across the field.
- Maintain proper angles and distances for support.
- Make quick and informed decisions both on and off the ball.
- Control the ball confidently with a good first touch.
- Keep your head up to scan the field for options.
- Move dynamically to create space and angles.
- Show a strong intent to score when in the attacking third.
- Support teammates promptly to maintain possession.
- Adjust body shape for optimal ball control and passing.
- Focus on passing forward when possible.
- Avoid forcing difficult passes; keep the ball moving smoothly.
- Make quick and correct decisions on pass selection.
- Recognize when to control the ball to gain a strategic advantage.
- Improve the overall quality of passing and teamwork.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the minimum number of passes required before attempting to score.
2. Reduce the size of the playing area to increase defensive pressure.
Make it easier:
1. Allow players to challenge any opponent, increasing available defensive options.
2. Decrease the number of required passes before a goal attempt.
3. Increase the size of the playing area to give players more space to operate.
