Equipment
- Two standard goals
- Cones or markers for a 40x40 yard area
- Footballs
- Bibs or pinnies for teams and neutrals
Setup
- Area: 40x40 yard area marked with cones
- Goals: Two standard goals placed back to back at the centre of the area
- Team Red: 4 red outfield players start spaced evenly within the playing area
- Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of one of the two centre goals
- Team Blue: 4 blue outfield players start spaced evenly within the playing area
- Team Blue GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the other centre goal
- Neutral: 8 black neutral players spaced evenly around the perimeter of the 40x40 area
- Equipment: Cones marking the corners and boundaries of the 40x40 yard area, two standard goals positioned back to back at the centre
Instructions
- Teams compete to score in either of the two goals, utilizing neutral players.
- Neutrals have a two-touch limit; others have unlimited touches.
- After scoring, possession is retained by the scoring team.
- If a goal is saved, the goalkeeper distributes the ball to the opposing team.
- Rotate outside players regularly.
Coaching Points
- Effective communication is vital.
- Maintain good angles and distances for support.
- Utilize a quality first touch while keeping your head up.
- Ensure passes are accurate, timed, and disguised.
- Select the appropriate pass and technique for each situation.
- Show for the ball with dynamic movement.
- Play with speed and confidence.
- Stay open to provide passing options, forming diamonds and triangles.
- Make smart runs and support attacking plays.
- Recapture possession quickly and counter-attack effectively.
- Finish attacking plays swiftly.
- Use neutral players to transition and switch play efficiently.
- Encourage ongoing player communication.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Limit all players, including neutrals, to two touches.
2. Reduce the size of the playing area to increase pressure.
3. Require at least two passes with neutrals before attempting a goal.
Make it easier:
1. Allow neutrals unlimited touches.
2. Increase playing area size for more space.
3. Permit scoring only from passes received from a neutral player.
