Equipment
- Soccer balls
- Small gates
- Cones for marking area
Setup
- Area: 15x15 yard area marked with cones
- Goals: Four small gates, one on each side of the area
- Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player (attacker) starts positioned behind one gate
- Team Red: 1 red outfield player (defender) starts in the center of the area
- Equipment: Cones marking the 15x15 yard area, four small gates positioned one on each side, spare balls placed at both ends for quick restarts
Instructions
- Attacking player attempts to dribble through any gate.
- Side gates are worth 1 point, opposite gate is worth 2 points.
- Defender must prevent scoring by blocking access to the gates.
- After each attempt, switch roles with attacker becoming defender.
- New attacker starts from opposite side.
Coaching Points
- Close down the ball quickly
- Maintain good communication
- Use proper body shape: low and side on
- Make the play predictable
- Exhibit patience when defending
- Determine when to press or concede ground
- Understand individual defensive responsibilities
- Track runners and step up if attacker errs
- Balance and cover support effectively
- Focus on recovery after a challenge
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the space to 10x10 yards.
2. Allow only dribbling through the middle gate.
3. Introduce time constraints for the attacker.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the area to 20x20 yards.
2. Allow attackers to score through any gate without restrictions.
3. Provide defensive support by adding a secondary defender.
