Equipment
- Cones (to mark the playing area)
- Soccer balls (one per player)
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones.
- Group Red: 1 red player stands still inside the area with feet apart, holding a ball above their head.
- Group Blue: 1 blue player starts inside the area with their own ball, ready to dribble and attempt nutmegs.
- Equipment: Cones marking the corners/perimeter of the 20x20 yard area, one soccer ball per player.
Instructions
- Dribblers move around the area with heads up, maintaining ball control.
- Attempt to pass the ball through the legs of stationary players (nutmeg).
- Track the number of successful nutmegs in one minute.
- Swap roles after one minute and repeat the activity.
- Continue swapping roles and repeat the drill to maximize participation.
Coaching Points
- Encourage active participation and enjoyment.
- Emphasize close ball control and head-up dribbling.
- Develop spatial awareness in confined spaces.
- Use different foot parts for varied dribbling speeds.
- Let the activity guide learning and player exploration.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the playing area to increase difficulty.
2. Add a time limit for completing a set number of nutmegs.
3. Allow the standing players to slightly move to block passes.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the playing area size.
2. Allow stationary players to keep their legs wider apart.
3. Give dribblers more time to complete the activity.
