Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones
  • Footballs
Setup
  1. Area: 30x30 yard grid marked with cones, with a 2-yard safety zone marked on each side.
  2. Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player (Dodger) starts at one end of the grid.
  3. Team Red: 4 red outfield players (Kickers) start dispersed evenly around the outside of the grid, one per side, holding footballs.
  4. Equipment: Cones marking the 30x30 yard grid boundary, cones marking the 2-yard safety zone on each side of the grid, footballs held by the Kickers positioned outside the grid.
Instructions
  1. On the coach's signal, Dodgers sprint from one side of the grid to the other.
  2. Kickers aim to hit Dodgers below the hips using accurate passes.
  3. If a Dodger is hit below the hips, they switch roles and become part of the Kickers.
  4. Repeat until all Dodgers are tagged or a set time elapses.
  5. Ensure safety guidelines are followed throughout the drill.
Coaching Points
  • Prioritize proper warm-up and hydration.
  • Emphasize communication between players.
  • Encourage players to gradually increase intensity.
  • Focus on hitting targets with accuracy and power.
  • Move quickly and unpredictably to avoid being hit.
  • Monitor players' responses and adapt strategy.
  • Reinforce safe and appropriate tackling techniques.
  • Highlight good body positioning and focus.
  • Ensure drill is both enjoyable and relevant.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Decrease the width of the grid to increase pressure.
2. Allow Kickers to move freely inside designated zones.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the width of the grid for more space.
2. Limit the number of Kickers or restrict their movement.
