Equipment
- Cones for a 20x20 yard area
- One ball per player
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
- Group: 1 black player with a ball, spaced evenly within the area
- Coach: 1 grey coach positioned at the edge of the area, calling out prompts
- Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 20x20 yard area, one ball per player
Instructions
- Players start dribbling or performing skills with their ball within the area.
- When the coach shouts, 'Zookeeper is coming,' players freeze and make zoo animal noises.
- On hearing 'Zookeeper has gone,' players resume their skills.
- Repeat the process, integrating various skills.
Coaching Points
- Encourage constant movement and skill execution
- Ensure players are aware of their space and others
- Cultivate ball control using different parts of the foot
- Focus on having fun while engaging with the game
- Allow players to learn naturally through play
- Monitor participation and engagement levels
- Help players understand moving at varying speeds
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the playing area to increase difficulty.
2. Introduce weak-foot only rule for skill execution.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the playing area for more space to move.
2. Allow only specific animal noises to limit distractions.
3. Simplify skills to dribbling only.
