Equipment
- Full-size goal
- Soccer balls
Setup
- Area: No bounded area; play is confined to the goal line and the space 10-12 yards in front of goal.
- Goals: One full-size goal positioned at one end of the working area.
- Group GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line, starting facing one goalpost.
- Coach: 1 grey server positioned 10-12 yards in front of the goal with a supply of balls.
- Equipment: Supply of soccer balls held by the server, 10-12 yards from goal.
Instructions
- The server calls out to signal the goalkeeper to turn and face the shot.
- The server releases the ball with varied speed and height towards the goal.
- The goalkeeper pivots and reacts to save the ball.
- Repeat the process with the goalkeeper starting from opposite post positions.
Coaching Points
- Maintain proper hand positioning before contact.
- Execute explosive and quick pivots.
- Analyze ball trajectory and speed quickly.
- Bring hands forward early, aligning with the ball's path.
- Glide into ready position promptly.
- Ensure positive takeoff and ball collection.
- Exhibit command over ball approach.
- Maintain focus and organization.
- Allow adequate rest between repetitions.
- Stay light on feet during movements.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the speed of ball delivery.
2. Use more unpredictable ball trajectories.
3. Limit goalkeeper's preparation time by shortening server's call interval.
Make it easier:
1. Slow down the speed of the ball.
2. Use consistent, predictable ball trajectories.
3. Allow the goalkeeper more time to prepare by extending the interval between server's calls.
