Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Soccer balls
  • Cones for perimeter and dens
Setup
  1. Area: 20x20 yard grid marked with cones, containing three smaller zones (lion dens) marked with cones inside
  2. Group: 3 lion players start without a ball, one positioned inside each of the three lion dens
  3. Group: 1 lion feeder player starts with a soccer ball outside the lion dens, dribbling around the main grid
  4. Equipment: cones marking the perimeter of the 20x20 yard grid, cones marking the three lion dens inside, and 1 soccer ball per lion feeder
Instructions
  1. Players dribble their balls around the main grid, entering lion dens to perform a drag back turn before exiting quickly. If a lion touches the feeder’s ball, they swap roles with the lion feeder.
Coaching Points
  • Encourage active participation from all players.
  • Develop space awareness and movement within the area.
  • Practice close ball control with various foot parts.
  • Maintain the session's enjoyment and energy.
  • Adapt activities to be age-appropriate.
  • Facilitate rather than coach to allow natural learning.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the lion dens to increase difficulty.
2. Allow lions to move within their dens to increase interception chances.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the lion dens for easier turns.
2. Allow younger players to practice without being challenged by lions initially.
