Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Soccer balls
  • Cones
  • 1-yard wide gate
  • Marked 20x20 yard space
Setup
  1. Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
  2. Group: 4 players - Player 1 starts beside the gate without a ball, Player 2 and Player 3 line up next to Player 1 each holding a ball, and Player 4 starts on the far side of the gate opposite Player 1
  3. Equipment: 4 cones marking the 20x20 yard area, a 1-yard wide gate positioned inside the area, and 1 cone placed 15 yards from the gate for Player 1 to run to.
Instructions
  1. Player 1 runs towards the cone.
  2. Player 2 passes the ball into Player 1's stride.
  3. Player 1 reaches the cone, turns, and passes through the gate to Player 4.
  4. Player 1 follows the pass and swaps positions with Player 4.
  5. Player 4 joins the line behind Player 3, maintaining a continuous cycle.
Coaching Points
  • Maintain optimal angles and distances for support.
  • Use a good first touch to control the ball.
  • Keep your head up to observe the field.
  • Move dynamically to receive and pass the ball.
  • Ensure pass quality with accurate timing and disguise.
  • Adapt passing technique based on the situation.
  • Support teammates quickly after passing.
  • Utilize both feet confidently.
  • Communicate effectively with teammates.
  • Stay light on feet to react swiftly.
  • Aim for fluency in passing within tight spaces.
  • Focus on accuracy and weight of each pass.
  • Observe passing angles carefully.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the gate width to increase passing precision.
2. Place the cone further from the gate to extend dribbling distance.
3. Increase the speed requirement for the drill.
Make it easier:
1. Widen the gate to make passing easier.
2. Shorten the distance between the cone and gate.
3. Allow more time for players to complete their actions.
