Equipment
  • Full-size goal
  • 2 poles
  • 2 cones
  • Balls
Setup
  1. Area: 18-yard box area in front of the goal
  2. Goals: One full-size goal centred on the goal line
  3. Team Red: 2 red outfield players (defenders) start at cones 5 yards behind each pole
  4. Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned centrally on the goal line
  5. Team Blue: 2 blue outfield players (attackers) start with their backs to each pole at the edge of the 18-yard box, aligned with the goalposts
  6. Equipment: 2 poles aligned with the goalposts at the edge of the 18-yard box, 2 cones positioned 5 yards behind the poles, balls with the defenders at the cones
Instructions
  1. Defender passes to their respective attacker at the pole.
  2. Attacker controls and can either drive towards the goal or turn and shoot.
  3. Goalkeeper decides whether to challenge directly or wait for a potential shot.
  4. Defender attempts to close down and regain possession.
  5. Repeat, alternating active pairs.
Coaching Points
  • Maintain a large and balanced stance in 1v1s.
  • Anticipate potential shots with confidence.
  • Keep a good set position with body weight forward.
  • Make early decisions without committing fouls.
  • Always be aware of goalpost locations.
  • Use suitable save techniques based on the situation.
  • Communicate clearly and manage space effectively.
  • Employ quick footwork to adjust positioning.
  • Lock neck muscles for head stability.
  • Lead in commanding the ball during engagements.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the defending distance from 5 to 10 yards to delay recovery.
2. Allow attackers to receive passes from different angles.
Make it easier:
1. Start attackers from a stationary position at the poles.
2. Reduce the distance defenders need to cover to reach the attacker.
