Equipment
- Soccer balls (one per pair)
- Cones to mark the area
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard grid marked with cones
- Group: 2 players, positioned on opposite sides of the grid facing each other
- Equipment: 1 soccer ball per pair, cones placed at the corners to mark the boundaries of the grid
Instructions
- Player A lofts the ball to Player B across the grid.
- Player B controls the lofted ball using an appropriate surface (chest, thigh, foot).
- Upon a controlled first touch, Player B lofts the ball back to Player A.
- Continue the sequence, focusing on accuracy and control.
- Adjust the distance between players to vary difficulty.
Coaching Points
- Use a cushion or wedge technique for control.
- Decide early on the controlling surface (chest, thigh, foot).
- Keep your head up to maintain awareness.
- Move in line with the ball's trajectory.
- Ensure quality and accuracy in passing.
- Select the optimal surface for ball contact.
- Address technical faults during execution.
- Develop a good first touch under pressure.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the distance between players for longer lofted passes.
2. Limit the number of touches before passing back.
3. Introduce defenders to apply pressure.
Make it easier:
1. Decrease the distance between players for easier control.
2. Allow more time for players to receive and control the ball.
3. Use a larger ball for easier aerial control.
