Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Full-sized pitch
  • Soccer balls
  • Goal posts
  • Cones (optional for marking positions)
Setup
  1. Area: Full pitch
  2. Goals: One goal at one end of the pitch
  3. Group: 2 outfield players, one positioned in each flank line near the halfway line, each with a ball
  4. Group GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line
  5. Neutral: 1 black target player positioned on the halfway line
  6. Equipment: Soccer balls available for each player in the flank lines
Instructions
  1. Players take turns dribbling the ball out of their feet and delivering a cross into the penalty area.
  2. The goalkeeper catches the cross and distributes the ball to the target player on the halfway line.
  3. The target player controls the ball and dribbles back to the group lines to join the end.
  4. After crossing, the crosser becomes the new target player positioned on the halfway line.
  5. For defensive heading practice, replace the goalkeeper with a defender, with the crosser becoming the defender afterwards.
Coaching Points
  • Accuracy and timing of the cross
  • Effective communication among players
  • Contact with the ball—correct weight and technique
  • Decision-making on cross location and target area
  • Ensure attackers' movements are well-timed and strategic
  • Observe central attackers and adjust positioning accordingly
  • Coordination between player roles during transitions
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Require crosses to reach specific zones in the penalty area.
2. Increase the pace of the drill to mimic counterattack scenarios.
3. Use weaker foot for crossing to challenge technical skills.
Make it easier:
1. Allow crosses to be made from closer distances.
2. Use a larger goal or no goalkeeper to increase scoring chances.
3. Allow more time for players to set up their crosses.
