Equipment
- Balls
- Cones (20x20 yard area)
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
- Group: 1 player starts inside the area with a ball, spaced freely to practice turns
- Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 20x20 yard area, 1 ball for the player
Instructions
- Players dribble within the marked area using three touches between each turn.
- Start by practicing the first turn technique with a stationary ball.
- Increase the speed of touches once comfortable.
- Introduce additional ball manipulation techniques as players improve.
- Combine multiple moves on command for added complexity.
- Transition the practice to mimic in-game scenarios focusing on timing and skill usage.
- Encourage using the less dominant foot throughout the stages.
Coaching Points
- Maintain close ball control
- Use disguise in moves
- Keep head up to increase awareness
- Focus on acceleration post-turn
- Develop both feet equally
- Ensure fluid movements
- Observe timing and correctly execute turns
- Keep knees slightly bent for balance and agility
- Continuously scan the area while in motion
- Encourage a positive attitude toward learning
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the practice area size to increase difficulty.
2. Require players to perform turns under time pressure.
Make it easier:
1. Allow more touches between turns.
2. Increase practice area size for more space.
