Equipment
- Soccer balls
- Cones for marking the field
- Small goals
Setup
- Area: 30x25 yard area marked with cones
- Goals: One small goal centred on each end line
- Team Red: 3 red outfield players start spaced evenly across the playing area
- Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the red team's goal
- Team Blue: 3 blue outfield players start spaced evenly across the playing area
- Team Blue GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the blue team's goal
- Equipment: Cones marking the corners and boundary of the 30x25 yard area, one small goal on each end line, soccer balls for restarts
Instructions
- Teams play a small-sided match where attackers must use feints or moves to beat defenders before attempting to score.
- Prioritize retaining possession to create 1v1 opportunities.
- Rotate goalkeepers after each goal is scored.
- On goal line restarts, goalkeepers play the ball back in.
- For sideline restarts, players can pass or dribble the ball back into play.
- Offside rules do not apply in this drill.
Coaching Points
- Use disguise and feints to unsettle defenders.
- Develop a good first touch to maintain control.
- Keep your head up to observe passing options and spaces.
- Move the ball into open spaces to avoid defenders.
- Maintain a positive, attacking attitude towards defenders.
- Focus on dribbling techniques and effective acceleration.
- Encourage creativity and experimentation with feints.
- Awareness of quickly creating passing and scoring opportunities.
- Provide support to teammates when they have the ball.
- Create and exploit space to facilitate passing and 1v1 situations.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the playing area to increase pressure.
2. Implement a time limit for scoring after gaining possession.
Make it easier:
1. Expand the playing area to provide more space for maneuvering.
2. Allow neutral players to support the attacking team.
3. Remove the requirement for attackers to beat a defender before scoring.
