Equipment
- Soccer balls
- Cones for boundaries and movement markers
Setup
- Area: 35x35 yard area marked with cones, containing two 10x10 yard mini areas set up within it
- Team Red: 4 red outfield players spaced evenly around one 10x10 yard mini area
- Team Blue: 4 blue outfield players spaced evenly around the other 10x10 yard mini area
- Equipment: Cones marking the 35x35 yard boundary, cones marking each of the two 10x10 yard mini areas, 1 soccer ball starting with one player in each mini area
Instructions
- Players pass the ball and move to an unoccupied cone without following the ball.
- Ensure no two players are positioned on the same cone.
- On coach's signal, the ball carrier at each mini area dribbles to the opposite side, passes to a team member, and moves to a free cone.
- Continue the practice with these steps.
Coaching Points
- Communicate effectively within the team.
- Maintain optimal support angles and distances.
- Execute a good first touch.
- Keep your head up to scan the field.
- Make smart movement decisions off the ball.
- Choose the appropriate pass with sound technique.
- Stay agile and light on your feet.
- Deliver accurate, well-weighted, and timely passes.
- Keep passes grounded when possible.
- Use the inside of the feet to control the ball.
- Integrate both feet into play.
- Monitor players' performance and provide quick, clear feedback.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce space in mini areas to 8x8 yards.
2. Increase ball speed requirement for passing.
3. Limit touches to one or two per player.
Make it easier:
1. Expand mini areas to 12x12 yards.
2. Allow players to follow their pass once before moving to a different cone.
3. Permit an extra touch for control before passing.
