Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Soccer balls
  • Cones for marking the area
Setup
  1. Area: 20x20 yard rectangular channel marked with cones.
  2. Group: 2 red outfield players positioned in two equal lines facing each other along the two long sides of the channel, each holding a ball.
  3. Neutral: 1 black runner positioned at the top of the channel, ready to sprint through to the other end.
  4. Equipment: Cones marking the corners and sides of the 20x20 yard channel, soccer balls with each side player.
Instructions
  1. The runner attempts to sprint through the channel while players on the sides try to pass balls to hit them.
  2. Passes must stay on the ground and be accurately aimed.
  3. Once the runner reaches the end, they swap roles with a side player.
  4. Rotate positions so each player gets a turn as the runner.
  5. For added challenge, have the runner dribble a ball through the channel.
Coaching Points
  • Encourage all players to participate actively.
  • Maintain situational awareness within the confined space.
  • Focus on ball control and accurate passing techniques.
  • Emphasize using different parts of the foot for ball control.
  • Promote enjoyment and engagement within the drill.
  • Allow the game to guide learning rather than overt coaching.
  • Reinforce the importance of adaptively moving at varying speeds.
  • Foster teamwork through fun, interactive competition.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Runner must dribble a ball while avoiding passes.
2. Narrow the channel to increase difficulty.
Make it easier:
1. Widen the channel to give the runner more space.
2. Allow the runner to walk instead of sprinting.
