Equipment
  • Balls
  • Cones
Setup
  1. Area: 10x10 yard square marked with cones
  2. Team Red: 1 red player starts in the central zone of the square
  3. Team Blue: 2 blue players start on opposite sides of the square
  4. Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 10x10 yard square, 1 ball per group
Instructions
  1. The blue players aim to pass the ball through the square to each other.
  2. The red defender seeks to intercept passes.
  3. Blues score a point after completing five consecutive passes.
  4. The red defender scores a point with three interceptions.
  5. Rotate player roles after one team reaches three points.
  6. Continuously monitor player workload and ensure appropriate intensity levels.
Coaching Points
  • Encourage quality and speed in passing.
  • Ensure the exercise replicates match-specific conditions.
  • Demand continuous movement from players.
  • Adjust intensity or duration to challenge the aerobic system.
  • Monitor player recovery to prevent over training.
  • Be flexible with session planning to cater to player recovery needs.
  • Focus on maintaining the quality of movement over prolonged periods.
  • Aim to enhance muscle efficiency utilized during matches.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the number of passes required for a point.
2. Reduce the size of the playing area.
3. Allow the defender to intercept from outside the central zone.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the playing area.
2. Decrease the number of passes for a point.
3. Add a third player to the blue team temporarily.
