Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cone
  • Soccer balls
Setup
  1. Area: 50x50 yard area marked with cones, with one cone in the center.
  2. Group: 4 players, split into four lines of 1 with each line positioned at the midpoint of a different side of the area, facing the center cone.
  3. Equipment: 1 cone marking the center of the area, 1 soccer ball held by the first player in each of the four lines.
Instructions
  1. The first player in each line sprints towards the center cone with the ball.
  2. On reaching the cone, the player turns quickly and passes the ball back to the next player in their line.
  3. The player then re-joins the end of the line.
  4. Ensure the activity is repeated with high intensity.
Coaching Points
  • Use the laces to push the ball while sprinting.
  • Maintain stride and minimize touches.
  • Develop quick turns with the head up.
  • Identify the best times to exploit open spaces.
  • Balance technical skill with tactical awareness.
  • Focus on a positive and aggressive approach to space.
  • Differentiate running with the ball from dribbling.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Decrease the size of the practice area to limit space.
2. Introduce a defender to pressure the players.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the area to allow more space for mistakes.
2. Allow additional touches for better control.
3. Remove the requirement to return the ball to the next player in line.
