Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones to mark the 20x20 yard area
  • One ball per player
Setup
  1. Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
  2. Group: 1 black player spaced evenly within the area with a ball, repeated for each additional player added to the drill
  3. Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 20x20 yard area
Instructions
  1. Players push the ball forward and stop it with the sole of the right foot.
  2. Step over the ball with the right foot, positioning it to shield the ball from the opponent.
  3. Lift the left leg over the ball and play it back with the outside of the left foot.
  4. Repeat the process, gradually increasing speed and incorporating other footwork skills.
  5. Practice using the less dominant foot as players become more proficient.
Coaching Points
  • Maintain acceleration and close control of the ball.
  • Use disguise to confuse opponents.
  • Keep the head up to see surroundings.
  • Exhibit a positive attitude during practice.
  • Focus on the technique and speed of the move.
  • Time the move accurately, bending knees slightly.
  • Increase fluency and speed progressively.
  • Master different ball manipulation techniques with specific focus.
  • Glance down only briefly as proficiency increases.
  • Continuously refine the technique for comfort.
  • Monitor progress through skill acquisition stages.
  • Improve balance, coordination, and spatial awareness through practice.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the pace of the drill, encouraging quicker execution of moves.
2. Add passive defenders to simulate pressure and test decision-making.
3. Combine multiple moves for a more complex sequence.
Make it easier:
1. Slow the pace, allowing more time to execute each step.
2. Practice with a stationary ball to focus on technique.
3. Use larger spaces between players to reduce pressure.
