Equipment
- Cones or disc markers for the playing area
- Two goals
- Soccer balls
- Goalkeepers (essential personnel)
Setup
- Area: 50x35 yard area marked with cones
- Goals: One goal centred on each end line
- Team Red: 1 red outfield player starts inside the area man-marking the blue attacker
- Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the red team's goal
- Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player starts inside the area in possession, facing their marker
- Team Blue GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the blue team's goal
- Neutral: 1 black neutral player positioned around the perimeter of the area to receive support passes
- Equipment: Cones marking the four corners and boundary lines of the 50x35 area, two goals on the end lines
Instructions
- Teams attempt to score by first passing to an outside neutral player.
- The passing player must support play, as they cannot receive the ball straight back.
- Players are only tackled by their assigned opponent, mimicking man-marking.
- Rotate teams after a set time, swapping inside teams with the neutral team.
Coaching Points
- Quick ball closing

- Maintain concentration throughout
- Adopt a low, side-on body shape
- Stay light on feet for agility
- Guide play predictably to control the game
- Exercise patience
- Aim to win the ball cleanly
- Use intelligent 1v1 defending tactics
- Practice balanced and controlled tackling
- Maintain proper distance when pressing
- Utilize tackling from both front and back foot
- Ensure correct marking positions
- Jockey with staggered feet for balance and speed with bent knees
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the space of the playing area.
2. Increase the number of neutrals involved in play.
3. Limit backward passing options once neutrals receive the ball.
Make it easier:
1. Enlarge the space of the playing area.
2. Allow players to receive the ball directly back from neutrals.
3. Allow neutral players to move within playing lines for added support.
