Equipment
- Cones to outline a 20x20 yard area with a halfway line.
- Balls, one for each player for the second phase.
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones with a halfway line
- Group: 2 players, one standing in the center of each half, starting without a ball
- Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 20x20 yard area and the halfway line, plus 2 balls (one per player) for the second phase
Instructions
- The first player moves to each corner of their half, returning to the middle after each corner.
- The second player mirrors the first player's movements.
- Switch roles after completing a set.
- Repeat the drill with each player using a ball to dribble.
Coaching Points
- Execute explosive movements with each turn.
- Maintain correct running form, using arms effectively.
- Keep head up and eyes scanning.
- Stay light on feet for quick directional changes.
- Drive legs forward powerfully with each stride.
- Use short, explosive steps when turning.
- Focus on rapid direction changes and acceleration.
- Maintain a good body posture for balance and timing.
- Adopt a player-centered approach incorporating technical, tactical, physical, and psychological aspects.
- Stay relaxed but focused for optimal performance.
- Ensure sprinting actions are correct and players remain alert.
- Execute at maximum effort to enhance speed and agility.
- Improve coordination, balance, and foot speed effectively.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the number of movements by adding extra corner targets.
2. Reduce the size of the practice area to encourage sharper turns.
3. Use a weaker foot for dribbling in the ball phase.
Make it easier:
1. Enlarge the practice area for wider movements.
2. Allow a slower pace for initial rounds to focus on form.
3. Omit the ball in the second phase or allow for practice with minimal pressure.
