Equipment
- Soccer balls
- Small goals
- Cones for marking 20x30 yard area and attacking zones
Setup
- Area: 20x30 yard area marked with cones, with a 5-yard attacking zone marked at each end
- Goals: One small goal centred on each end line
- Team Red: 4 red outfield players start spaced evenly across the middle zone
- Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the red team's goal
- Team Blue: 4 blue outfield players start spaced evenly across the middle zone
- Team Blue GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the blue team's goal
- Equipment: Cones marking the 20x30 yard area boundary and cones marking the 5-yard attacking zone at each end
Instructions
- Teams play in the middle zone maintaining possession.
- Players look for opportunities to pass to a teammate making a run into the attacking zone.
- Players can't enter their own defensive zone.
- Goals can only be scored from the attacking zone.
- Adjust team numbers for overloads or underloads, e.g., 4 attackers vs. 2 defenders.
Coaching Points
- Communicate effectively on the field.
- Maintain good angles and distances for support.
- Ensure a quality first touch.
- Keep your head up for awareness.
- Make intelligent and timely movements.
- Focus on playing forward when possible.
- Maintain a positive attitude toward scoring.
- Execute passes with precision, timing, and disguise.
- Offer fast support after passing.
- Don’t force through balls; wait for the right moment.
- Select the correct passing option and finish efficiently.
- Keep passing quick and confident to maintain possession.
- Understand when to pass to feet and when to space.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the playing area to increase pressure.
2. Introduce a touch limit for passes in the middle zone.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the playing area.
2. Allow goals to be scored from the middle zone as well.
3. Permit players to enter the defensive zone to relieve pressure.
