Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
- Cones for marking the playing area and central circle
- One ball per player except for the player in the center circle
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard square marked with cones
- Group: 1 blue outfield player (lamb) with a ball, starting outside the center circle
- Neutral: 1 black player (wolf) starting inside the center circle without a ball
- Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 20x20 yard square and cones marking the central circle large enough to contain one player
Instructions
- Players dribble their ball into the circle, perform a quick turn, and dribble out before the 'wolf' can touch the ball.
- If a 'wolf' touches a ball, the touched player swaps roles and becomes the new 'wolf'.
- The game continues with players trying to avoid being touched by the 'wolf' while maintaining control of their ball.
Coaching Points
- Encourage close ball control using various foot parts
- Keep the session enjoyable and age-appropriate
- Prioritize player participation
- Facilitate the session allowing the game to coach itself
- Teach dribbling at varying speeds
- Focus on using quick turns to evade the defender
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the central circle.
2. Add another 'wolf' in the circle.
Make it easier:
1. Enlarge the central circle.
2. Allow the 'lambs' more time to dribble out before being touched.
