Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • - Cones (including 4 large corner cones)
  • - Bibs (for marking start points)
  • - Balls (one per side)
  • - Optional: additional cones for lane and turning zones
Setup
  1. Area: 15x15 yard square marked by cones
  2. Group: 12 players form 4 feeder queues of 3, one queue positioned at each side of the square, with the first player in each queue holding a ball
  3. Equipment: 4 large cones marking the corners of the square, bibs marking the start point on each of the 4 sides, additional cones inside the square marking the dribble lanes and central turning zone, 4 balls (one at the front of each queue)
Instructions
  1. On the coach’s signal, Player 1 dribbles into the square.
  2. Execute a step-over turn in the designated zone to change direction.
  3. Pass to the queue directly opposite once the turn is complete.
  4. Follow the pass and join the end of the opposite queue.
  5. Continuously repeat the process so all players perform multiple turns.
  6. Incorporate varied ball mastery techniques as cued by the coach.
Coaching Points
  • Identify and move into space quickly.
  • Perform a precise step-over turn: deceive, step around.
  • Keep your head up when turning; prepare to pass.
  • Control the ball with regular touches from both feet.
  • Execute a fast, controlled plant-and-pivot on step-over.
  • Accelerate after receiving with the opposite foot.
  • Stay focused; maintain technique under increased pressure.
  • Practice varied movements: sprint, dodge, twist, hop.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the grid size to 12m x 12m; require 1-touch passing after turns.
2. Implement a call-and-go system where the coach directs the side to pass to before the turn.
3. Mandate the collection with the weaker foot after the turn, maintaining pass accuracy.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the grid size to 18m x 18m; allow 2-touch passes after turns.
2. Slow the drill tempo by pausing briefly in the turn position before moving.
3. Allow passing to the same-side queue initially, progressing to opposite-side passes.
