Equipment
- Balls (for each pair and additional restarts)
- Cones (to mark the area)
Setup
- Area: 30x30 yard area marked with cones, adjusting size based on player numbers.
- Team Red: 1 red outfield player (defender) starts in the centre of the area facing their attacker.
- Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player (attacker) starts opposite the defender on one end line, in possession of the ball.
- Neutral: 3 black neutral players spaced evenly around the area to offer support to attackers.
- Equipment: Cones marking the four corners of the 30x30 yard area, plus extra balls placed around the perimeter for quick restarts.
Instructions
- Each pair plays 1v1, with one player attacking and the other defending.
- The attacking player aims to dribble over either end line.
- Attackers can use neutral players to combine with a maximum of two touches.
- If defenders win the ball, they switch to attack.
- Players keep score, with rounds lasting a maximum of one minute.
Coaching Points
- Make quick decisions on when and where to dribble.
- Use disguise and keep your head up.
- Maintain ball movement into open spaces.
- Show a positive attitude and effective technique.
- Acceleration and communication are key.
- Attack the defender with confidence.
- Use close control and practice fluency.
- Execute moves at the correct distance to avoid tackles.
- Create and exploit space in the 1v1 situation.
- Develop spatial awareness through practice.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the practice area size to increase pressure.
2. Limit neutral players to one touch only.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the area size to give players more space.
2. Allow neutral players unlimited touches to assist attack.
