Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones
  • Bibs
  • Balls
Setup
  1. Area: 15x15 yard area marked with cones
  2. Team Red: 2 red outfield players (defenders) start inside the area, central position ready to press
  3. Team Blue: 5 blue outfield players (attackers) start spaced evenly around the inside of the area, one holding the ball
  4. Equipment: Cones marking the four corners of the 15x15 yard area, 1 ball with the attacking team
Instructions
  1. Attackers pass the ball among themselves, aiming to maintain possession.
  2. Defenders attempt to intercept or dispossess the ball.
  3. If a defender wins possession, they swap roles with the attacker who lost it.
  4. Attackers focus on quick ball movement and using space effectively.
Coaching Points
  • Use cushion and wedge techniques to control the ball.
  • Communicate effectively with teammates.
  • Keep your head up to assess passing options.
  • Move the ball into spaces, avoiding straight lines.
  • Deliver precise, relaxed first touches.
  • Position body to receive passes at optimal angles.
  • Understand angles and distances for support.
  • Look up to see options early, refining pass selection.
  • Control the ball to protect possession.
  • Create and exploit space to receive passes.
  • Make calculated decisions without forcing passes.
  • Support the ball-carrier from secondary positions.
  • Work cohesively as a unit to outmaneuver defenders.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the playing area to increase defensive pressure.
2. Add a third defender to challenge ball retention.
3. Limit the number of touches per attacker.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the playing area.
2. Allow unlimited touches for attackers.
3. Add an extra attacking player to provide more passing options.
