Equipment
- Cones for 20x20 yard playing area
- Cones for 2x2 yard corner squares
- One ball per attacking player
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
- Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player (attacker) starts with a ball inside the 20x20 area, away from the corner squares
- Team Red: 1 red outfield player (defender) starts inside the 20x20 area, away from the attacker
- Equipment: cones marking the 20x20 yard area, cones marking a 2x2 yard square in each of the 4 corners (each corner assigned a stadium name), 1 ball per attacking player
Instructions
- Attackers dribble their balls around the playing area.
- The coach calls out a stadium name.
- Attackers aim to dribble to the named stadium without being tagged.
- Defenders attempt to tag attackers or take the ball.
- Tagged players become defenders.
- Continue until all attackers are caught or time expires.
Coaching Points
- Ensure proper hydration breaks during the drill.
- Foster strong communication amongst players.
- Gradually increase drill intensity.
- Monitor players' first touch and body language.
- Begin the drill gradually for effective warm-up.
- Make warm-up activities relevant to the session.
- Highlight the importance of good warm-up habits for optimal performance preparedness.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the 2x2 yard squares.
2. Add more defenders to increase pressure.
3. Limit the time attackers have to reach their destination.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the 2x2 yard squares.
2. Reduce the number of defenders.
3. Allow attackers more time to reach the stadium.
