Equipment
- 30x40 yard playing area
- Minimum of 10 cones
- 2 soccer balls
Setup
- Area: 30x40 yard area
- Team Red: 1 red outfield player starts spaced out in their own half
- Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player starts spaced out in their own half
- Equipment: 10 cones total, 5 aligned in a row at least 1 yard apart along the red team's back line and 5 aligned in a row at least 1 yard apart along the blue team's back line, 1 ball given to each team
Instructions
- Each team attempts to knock over the opponent's cones by passing or dribbling.
- When a cone is knocked over, the player resets the cone and relocates one of their team's cones to the opponent’s line.
- Play is continuous, and players can play in all areas of the field.
Coaching Points
- Promote quick ball movement and quality passing.
- Ensure players target cones with precision and intent.
- Encourage constant movement and communication.
- Adapt intensity to overload the aerobic system effectively.
- Plan sessions that allow adequate recovery.
- Monitor for signs of overtraining and adjust accordingly.
- Encourage strategic decision-making during play.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the number of cones each team defends.
2. Reduce the space between cones to increase difficulty.
3. Limit the number of touches per player before passing.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the distance between cones to simplify targeting.
2. Allow players more time to position before opponents restart.
3. Remove or reduce defensive pressure.
