Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • 2 Goals
  • Cones to mark playing area and channels
  • Several Balls
Setup
  1. Area: 40x20 yard area marked with cones
  2. Goals: One small goal centred on each end line
  3. Team Red: 4 red outfield players, one positioned in each of the four channels spanning the width of the area
  4. Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line at one end
  5. Team Blue: 4 blue outfield players positioned together in one half of the area
  6. Team Blue GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line at the other end
  7. Equipment: Cones marking the 40x20 area boundary and the lines dividing it into four equal 10x20 yard channels across the width
Instructions
  1. Attackers start with the ball and attempt to score against the opposing goal.
  2. Defenders must stay in their channels or move one channel left or right.
  3. Attackers are free to move across channels to create scoring opportunities.
  4. Defenders work together to prevent attackers from scoring.
  5. Defenders aim to win the ball and transition quickly to counter-attack.
Coaching Points
  • Communicate effectively.
  • Maintain concentration.
  • Adopt a low, side-on body position.
  • Nearest defender presses ball quickly.
  • Exercise patience and stay compact.
  • Attempt to win the ball when possible.
  • Always provide cover for teammates.
  • Recognize and block passing lanes quickly.
  • Spread out but stay oriented towards the ball.
  • Aim to double-team the ball carrier when feasible.
  • Encourage players to coach each other.
  • Transition swiftly to counter-attack.
  • Understand positional play in and out of possession.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Allow attackers to start with numerical superiority (e.g., 5 attackers).
2. Reduce the size of the defensive channels.
3. Limit defenders to only their assigned channels.
Make it easier:
1. Allow defenders to move freely between all channels.
2. Remove one attacker to create a 4v3 scenario.
3. Provide defenders with an additional teammate (5v4 setup).
