Equipment
- Balls
- Corner of a pitch with full goal
- Cones for marking penalty area
Setup
- Area: 44x18 yard penalty area marked with cones
- Goals: One full-size goal centred on the goal line of the penalty area
- Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned centrally inside the penalty area
- Coach: 1 grey server positioned at the corner flag with a supply of balls
- Equipment: Cones marking the width and edges of the penalty area, multiple balls stored at the corner position for continuous delivery
Instructions
- The server delivers a swinging corner kick from a stationary ball into the penalty area.
- Goalkeeper assesses the flight of the ball and makes a decision to catch, punch, or intercept.
- Repeat deliveries from both sides to vary challenges for the goalkeeper.
- Coach observes and provides feedback on technique and decision-making.
Coaching Points
- Set in a balanced position with body weight forward
- Use correct catching or punching technique
- Reach high balls at their highest point
- Make confident and early decisions
- Increase size to intimidate attackers
- Keep knees slightly bent for agility
- Be aware of goalpost positions
- Track ball flight for timing
- Move quickly and stay organized
- Command the ball vocally
- Maintain light footwork to adjust position
- Cleanly punch the ball if needed
- Use accurate footwork for optimal positioning
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the speed of the crossing delivery.
2. Add a second attacker to challenge the goalkeeper.
3. Deliver balls at varying heights and spins.
Make it easier:
1. Use thrown balls instead of kicked for easier tracking.
2. Slow down the delivery.
3. Remove attackers for simplified focus on technique.
