Equipment
- 40x30-yard markers for the playing area
- Cones for lanes and gates
- Two small gates (red)
- Footballs
- Bibs for neutral wingers
Setup
- Area: 40x30 yard area with a 5-yard neutral lane on each side
- Goals: One small gate marked with cones on each end line
- Team Red: 3 red outfield players start in the central 40x30 zone
- Team Blue: 3 blue outfield players start in the central 40x30 zone
- Neutral: 2 black neutral wingers, one positioned in each 5-yard side lane
- Equipment: Cones marking the area boundaries and side lanes, cones marking the two small gates on the end lines, and a football placed at the center of the area to start
Instructions
- Begin with a 3v3 game in the middle zone.
- Teams maintain possession to find opportunities to pass to neutral wingers.
- Neutral wingers receive the ball, creating a 4v3 advantage for the attackers.
- Attackers aim to dribble through the opponent's red gate to score.
- Rotate the neutral wingers periodically.
Coaching Points
- Create supportive angles and maintain optimal distance.
- Communicate clearly with teammates.
- Make quick, effective decisions.
- Use a good first touch to control the ball.
- Keep your head up to observe the field.
- Maintain ball movement to destabilize defenders.
- Execute quality passes with appropriate accuracy, weight, and timing.
- Adjust pace and angle based on defensive pressure.
- Vary the tempo to match play situations.
- Seek opportunities for forward passing with precision.
- Move off straight lines for better positioning.
- Rotate positions effectively to maintain attacking impetus.
- Ensure defensive coverage when attacking.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Limit the time neutral wingers have on the ball.
2. Reduce the playing area to increase pressure.
3. Add an extra defender to create a 4v4 scenario in the middle.
Make it easier:
1. Allow unlimited touches for neutral wingers.
2. Increase the width of the side lanes.
3. Add a player as a permanent extra attacker for the offensive team.
