  • Soccer balls
  • Cones to mark the area
  • Two different colored gates (portable goals, poles, or cones)
Setup
  1. Area: 50x40 yard area marked with cones
  2. Goals: Two red 3-yard gates positioned at two diagonally opposite corners of the area and two blue 3-yard gates positioned at the other two diagonally opposite corners
  3. Team Red: 4 red outfield players start spread evenly across the 50x40 area, attacking either of the two red corner gates
  4. Team Blue: 4 blue outfield players start spread evenly across the 50x40 area, attacking either of the two blue corner gates
  5. Equipment: Cones marking the corners and boundary of the 50x40 area, plus poles or cones forming the four 3-yard corner gates, and soccer balls for play
Instructions
  1. Teams play 4v4, trying to dribble through either of their assigned gates.
  2. Encourage players to run with the ball, utilizing space effectively.
  3. Players should make precise passes and quick movements to progress through the gates.
  4. Mix the position of the goals so that sometimes 2 goals are diagonal and sometimes opposite or next to each other.
Coaching Points
  • Use laces to push the ball with few touches and maintain stride
  • Keep head up for awareness of space and teammates
  • Accelerate into open spaces quickly
  • Deliver quality passes or shots as the end product
  • Receive the ball with a good first touch, keeping it out in front
