Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Balls
  • 4 Small goals
  • Cones for marking the playing area
Setup
  1. Area: 35x30 yard area marked with cones
  2. Goals: Two small goals at each end line (4 total)
  3. Team Red: 1 red outfield player starts beside one goal, ready to sprint around it into the area as the defender
  4. Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player starts beside the opposite goal, ready to sprint around it into the area as the attacker
  5. Coach: 1 grey coach positioned at the side of the area with a supply of balls
  6. Equipment: Cones marking the 35x30 yard playing area, 4 small goals positioned two at each end
Instructions
  1. On the coach's signal, the first player from each group sprints around their respective goal to enter the playing area.
  2. The coach passes a ball to the attacking player (red).
  3. The attacker attempts to dribble past the defender and score in either goal.
  4. If the defender wins possession, they quickly transition to attack the two opposite goals.
  5. Encourage players to run with the ball, using the space effectively.
Coaching Points
  • Use laces to dribble with good technique, maintaining stride.
  • Ensure a quality first touch that allows for quick movement.
  • Keep head up to be aware of defender and goal positions.
  • Receive the ball with the foot furthest from the defender.
  • Change angle with the first touch to open space.
  • Display a positive attitude towards attacking opportunities.
  • Focus on quick, controlled execution to maximize speed while maintaining control.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the playing area to increase defensive pressure.
2. Allow only one or two touches before shooting to challenge control under pressure.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the playing area to give attackers more space.
2. Introduce a time limit for the defender to win the ball and prevent a goal.
