Coaching Points
  • Arch the back and use neck muscles to generate power.
  • Maintain communication with teammates and keep eyes on the ball.
  • Adopt a good body shape to attack the ball.
  • Aim to make contact with the center or top of the ball for a downward header.
  • Stay balanced and light on your feet.
  • Use your forehead and keep eyes open during the attempt.
  • Practice both one-footed and two-footed jumping, adapting based on the situation.
  • Change the direction of the ball by turning the body before heading.
  • Direct headers downward to disrupt opponents, jumping if needed.
  • Keep eyes open and mouth closed while heading.
  • Build confidence through correct heading techniques.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Add a defender to challenge the header.
2. Increase the speed or distance of the service to the attacker.
3. Decrease the size of the goal.
Make it easier:
1. Use a larger ball for easier contact.
2. Allow players to practice without a defender.
3. Slow down the service for better accuracy.
