Equipment
- Cones for marking a 20x10 area and halfway line
- 1 soccer ball
Setup
- Area: 20x10 yard area marked with cones, including a halfway line
- Goals: None — attackers score by stopping the ball on the opposite end line
- Team Blue: 2 blue outfield attackers start with the ball at one end line of the area
- Team Red: 2 red outfield defenders start with one defender on the halfway line and the second defender on the opposite end line
- Equipment: Cones marking the 20x10 area and the halfway line, 1 soccer ball
Instructions
- Attackers play a 2v1 situation against the first defender.
- If they pass the defender, they aim to stop the ball on the opposite end line to score.
- If defenders win possession, they transition to attack and try to move the ball to the starting end line.
- If the first defender wins possession, the second defender joins for a 2v2 counter.
- The second defender can run with the ball or pass accurately to their teammate.
Coaching Points
- Maintain close control of the ball.
- Effective communication between players.
- Use disguise to unbalance defenders.
- Ensure a good first touch.
- Provide effective support and positioning.
- Keep your head up to read the game.
- Maintain a positive attitude towards attack.
- Utilize quality techniques to beat opponents.
- Accelerate quickly past defenders.
- Decide when to dribble or pass for maximum impact.
- Select and execute appropriate dribbling techniques.
- Understand the timing for executing moves.
- Create space and opportunities through movement.
- Maximize 2v1 overloads to outnumber defenders.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the area size to increase pressure.
2. Add a time limit for attackers to score.
3. Allow defenders to move freely between zones.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the area size for more space.
2. Assign a second attacker to join the initial attack.
3. Allow attackers to retry immediately after losing possession.
