Setup
- Area: 22x22 yard area marked with cones
- Group: 1 outfield player starts inside the area with a ball, spaced freely within the grid
- Coach: 1 grey coach positioned at the edge of the grid to call out commands
- Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 22x22 yard grid, 1 ball per player inside the area
Instructions
- Players dribble freely within the grid, constantly changing direction and pace.
- On the coach's command, players stop their ball immediately.
- Players place the specified body part on the ball as instructed by the coach.
- Resume dribbling until the next command is given.
- This drill can be done with as many players as needed. Adjust the playing area as needed.
- For activities like walking football, make sure there is plenty of space to stop players bumping into each other.
Coaching Points
- Encourage quick directional changes with light footwork.
- Ensure players keep heads up for awareness.
- Emphasize controlled touches for better ball handling.
- Stress varied pace to mimic real-game situations.
- Ensure prompt reactions to verbal commands to boost mental acuity.
- Guide players to place body parts gently yet firmly on the ball.
- Check player's posture for balance and safety.
- Advocate unpredictable movements to enhance agility.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the grid size to increase dribbling difficulty.
2. Increase the frequency of commands for faster reaction time.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the grid size for more space.
2. Allow players more time to respond to commands.
