Equipment
- Two gates
- Balls for each player
Setup
- Area: 15 yard gap between two gates, each gate 2 yards wide
- Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player (attacker) starts at one end facing the defender, 15 yards away
- Team Red: 1 red outfield player (defender) starts at the opposite end facing the attacker, 15 yards away
- Equipment: Two gates, each 2 yards wide, positioned 15 yards apart between the two starting ends; one ball per player
Instructions
- The attacker attempts to dribble through either gate without being tagged by the defender.
- The defender tries to tag the attacker before they pass through a gate.
- After the attempt, both players return to their starting positions around the outside.
- Repeat with roles alternated in the next round.
Coaching Points
- Start the drill at a moderate pace to encourage focused participation.
- Ensure effective communication between players during the drill.
- Emphasize quality first touches and sharp movements.
- Encourage players to raise intensity gradually to increase heart rate.
- Allow regular hydration breaks to ensure peak player performance.
- Maintain engagement by keeping the drill fun and relevant to the game.
- Emphasize the importance of a structured warm-up for optimal performance.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Narrow each gate to increase difficulty.
2. Add a time limit for the attacker to pass through a gate.
Make it easier:
1. Widen the gates for easier access.
2. Allow attackers to use both feet to dribble.
