Equipment
- 2 goals
- Balls
- Cones for marking area and divisions
Setup
- Area: 33x16 yard area divided into three equal thirds marked with cones
- Goals: One goal centred on each end line
- Team Blue: 3 blue outfield attackers start in the defending third
- Team Red: 1 red outfield defender starts in the middle third
- Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the opposite end goal
- Coach: 1 grey coach positioned at the edge of the defending third to pass the first ball to an attacker
- Equipment: cones marking the perimeter and the two internal thirds divisions, balls for play
Instructions
- The coach starts by passing the ball to one of the attackers.
- Attackers advance through the middle third, facing a 3v1 against the defender.
- Attackers aim to score in the opponent's goal.
- If adding a third defender, rotate roles after each attack and change attacking direction.
- Following six sets, rotate player roles.
Coaching Points
- Communicate effectively on and off the ball.
- Maintain a quality first touch to control and redirect.
- Keep your head up to read the game.
- Move the ball swiftly into advantageous spaces.
- Avoid predictability by varying direction and pace of play.
- Create and exploit space effectively.
- Strike proactively with the intent to score.
- Ensure quality passes in terms of accuracy, timing, and disguise.
- Adapt body shape for improved ball control and movement.
- Understand when to release or hold the ball.
- Pass with strategic intent, choosing forward, square, or backward as needed.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce playing area to increase pressure.
2. Add a second defender in the middle third.
3. Limit the time attackers have to score.
Make it easier:
1. Expand the playing area to reduce defensive pressure.
2. Allow attackers to use an additional neutral player.
3. Remove the offside rule to simplify play.
