Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones
  • Balls (optional, for progression)
Setup
  1. Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones, adjusted for player numbers
  2. Group: 1 red player starts on the starting line at one end of the area, facing the gates
  3. Equipment: 4 cones marking the corners of the 20x20 area, 2 gates marked with cones positioned side by side in the centre of the area, cones acting as "lion meat" placed along the end line opposite the starting players, balls optional for the dribbling progression
Instructions
  1. Players run through one of the central gates to collect a piece of 'lion meat'.
  2. After collecting, players must return through a gate to the starting line.
  3. Players repeat the process, aiming to collect as many 'meat' pieces as possible.
  4. For a progression, introduce a ball for dribbling or require a spin/star jump before collecting the 'meat'.
Coaching Points
  • Encourage players consistently.
  • Promote awareness of space within the playing area.
  • Keep the session enjoyable and age-appropriate.
  • Ensure full participation from all players.
  • Let the game guide learning rather than direct coaching.
  • Foster understanding of spatial awareness.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Introduce a ball that players must dribble while collecting and returning 'meat'.
2. Require additional physical activities, like a spin, before each collection.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the gates to make the task less challenging.
2. Allow players to use their dominant foot only when dribbling as a progression adjustment.
