Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones to mark the playing area
  • 2 small goals
  • 1 ball
Setup
  1. Area: 25x25 yard area marked with cones
  2. Goals: One small goal centred on each end line
  3. Team Red: 1 red outfield player starts at one end of the area
  4. Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player starts at the opposite end of the area with the ball
  5. Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 25x25 yard area, 2 small goals centred on each end line
Instructions
  1. The player with the ball passes it to the opposing player, who becomes the attacker.
  2. The initial passer transitions to the defender.
  3. The attacker aims to score in the defender's goal.
  4. The defender must use footwork and positioning to stop the attacker.
  5. If the defender wins the ball, they attack the opposite goal.
  6. Continue the drill with new pairs after each goal or successful defensive intervention.
Coaching Points
  • Close down the attacker quickly
  • Communicate effectively with teammates
  • Maintain concentration throughout
  • Use a low, side-on body shape
  • Stay agile and light on your feet
  • Make the attack predictable
  • Show patience; don't rush in
  • Win the ball with precise timing
  • Counterattack quickly if possession is regained
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the playing area to increase pressure.
2. Limit the time the defender has to win the ball.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the playing area to give defenders more space.
2. Allow defenders to start closer to the attacker.
3. Permit defenders to call for a nearby teammate assist.
