Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
- Balls (one per player)
- Cones/Markers (for a 20x20 yard area)
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
- Group: 1 player spaced evenly within the grid, each with a ball
- Equipment: Balls, one per player; cones/markers marking the corners of the 20x20 yard area
Instructions
- Players tap the ball twice using the inside of their feet.
- Use the sole of the foot to roll the ball to the opposite foot.
- Continue the tap-tap-roll sequence, alternating feet.
- Focus on control first, then increase speed as players become comfortable.
- Introduce other ball manipulation moves once the basic sequence is mastered.
Coaching Points
- Maintain close control of the ball.
- Keep your head up to increase awareness.
- Ensure correct technique with each move.
- Bend knees slightly and stay light on your feet.
- Gradually increase the speed and fluency of the sequence.
- Practice each technique distinctly before combining them.
- Aim to be comfortable with the move, only glancing at the ball briefly.
- Improve balance, coordination, and feel with practice.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase speed and require players to perform eight consecutive tap-tap-rolls at high speed.
2. Introduce more complex ball manipulation moves for advanced coordination challenges.
3. Have players switch between different sequences on the coach's command.
Make it easier:
1. Begin with a stationary ball to focus on technique without requiring movement.
2. Allow more space between players to reduce pressure.
3. Slow down the sequence to emphasize control over speed.
