Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Full size goal
  • Multiple soccer balls
Setup
  1. Area: Penalty box area in front of the goal
  2. Goals: One full-size goal
  3. Group GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned at the near post of the goal
  4. Coach: 2 grey feeders, one server standing on the goal line to one side of the goal and one coach positioned centrally at the edge of the penalty box to deliver high balls
  5. Equipment: Multiple soccer balls available at both the server and coach positions
Instructions
  1. The server plays a low ball from the side for the goalkeeper to collect on their chest.
  2. The goalkeeper returns the ball to the server.
  3. Immediately, the goalkeeper jumps to collect a high ball from the coach in the center of the box.
  4. Repeat the sequence several times, alternating the starting side.
Coaching Points
  • Utilize proper collection technique.
  • Maintain control of the six-yard box.
  • Catch high balls at their peak height.
  • Communicate clearly at all times.
  • Prepare hands before handling the ball.
  • Execute explosive movements.
  • Use straight arm preparation.
  • Analyze the angle and distance of approach.
  • Evaluate the ball's flight and pace.
  • Ensure quick feet movements to position.
  • Focus on timing for ball collection.
  • Confirm technical precision.
  • Build confidence in handling balls from varied heights and speeds.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the speed or height of the crosses.
2. Reduce the reaction time for the goalkeeper by making the ball delivery quicker.
Make it easier:
1. Slow down the pace of the balls delivered by the server and coach.
2. Allow the goalkeeper to start from a central goal position rather than the near post.
